Introduction

  • Disclaimer

GOTH-3Designs cannot be held responsible for any mistakes made by DIYers during their install. You must have a good understanding of what you’re doing, of the components used and the safety measures associated to them. Always wear protective gear when working on install (gloves, eye protection, …), GOTH-3Designs cannot be held responsible in case of accident.

  • Note #1

Always use the smallest wires to make your install easier. There can be big differences between one wire type and another for the same AWG specs. PTFE Wires with the smallest OD are recommended such as those sold at The Saber Armory. A good wire management is also required, routing wires properly helps a lot saving space.

  • Note #2

These instructions will not cover how to wire the soundboard, make sure to learn how to by reading the manual. We have also typical soundboards wiring available in the Padawan Tutorials. Always test your install along the way! Verifying that everything works after important steps is better than having to dismount everything because something wasn’t wired properly.

  • Note #3

It can happen that metal parts result slightly bent after printing, but there are normally fairly easy to bent back into their right shape by hands of using pliers (protected to avoid scratches on the metal).

Quick Install Guide

  • Step 1 – Separate’ the main chassis parts.

Step 2 – Install the NPXL connector (left) and the NPXL + switches connector (right). The switches will exit through the window on that chassis part.

Step 3 – Insert the chassis top into the Graflex core, passing the switches wires first. The solder the wires on the switches PCBs.
There is a retention screw to secure the top chassis. There is another one  at the bottom that will serve as chassis guide.

Step 4 – Wire and glue the kill switch in its slot.

Step 5 – Wire and install the motor in its slot.

Step 6 – A 2020 pixel strip can be installed in the rail shown on the picture below. Glue the strip gently to avoid breaking any of the pixels.

Step 7 – Install the soundboard. There are 3 holes for 4mmOD tubes, where the wires will have to be directed. Plan ahead the wire management to feed the CC crystal, the soundboard negative (short tubes) and the NPXL + switches connector (long tube).

Step 8 – Separate the plastic cover part from the rest of the clear parts and cut it in two at the middle (the cover that be sanded a bit be better diffusion).

Step 9 – Glue the two cover parts as shown

Step 10 – Slide in and glue the metal back part

Step 11 – Wire the speaker and glue it in its slot

Step 12 – Glue the CC spinning part on the motor (being extra careful with the glue, only the motor shaft is to be glued on the CC part.

Step 13 – Add the CC insert and the tubes. Use 2 tubes of 50mm length that will feed the soundboard negative and the CC crystal. And 1 tube of 110mm length (not shown on the picture) that will feed the NPXL + Switches connector (switches wires, positive, data…).

Step 14 – Add the 2nd CC insert as shown

Step 15 – Add the 1.5mmOD rods. The shorter one goes at the bottom, the longer ones on the side.

Step 16 – Glue the crystal and nano pixel in place.

Step 17 – Install the 2020 pixels strip in their dedicated areas.

Step 18 – Slide in its slot the negative battery tab.

Step 19 – Insert the shown clear part into the metal part.

Step 20 – Add the front cover and glue the 2 x 4mmOD tubes of 54mm length. (the remaining tube shown on the picture below isn’t glued and comes from the chassis back => 110mm length tube).

Step 21 – The soundboard negative and CC crystal wires can be soldered at tis step. Then add the battery cover and the ring on the front chassis before joining them together. The will hold the battery cover and ring in place.

Step 22 – Install the battery positive tab.

Step 23 – Install the tactile switches on the front.

Step 24 – Add the front cover.

Step 25 – Wire and glue the NPXL + switches PCB in its slot.

Step 26 – Glue the magnets on the chassis and covers.
For chassis back has 2 options for the magnets for ProffieBoard. CFX can only use 1 option.

    Done!
